WEIGHTLIFTING FOR CROSSFITTERS

Undoubtedly, CrossFit has increased awareness to Weightlifting, and now large number of people know what Olympic Weightlifting is and how it differs from Cross Fit. However, as Nick Horton (CrossFit and Oly-lifting coach) says “CrossFitters can find Weightlifters myopic, arrogant, and elitist. Weightlifters can find Crossfitters to be undisciplined, hot-headed, and impatient. And, they both have good reason to feel this way.”

To put it short, for weightlifters heavier  is better, while cross fit athletes believe faster is better; CrossFit is endurance and “GO-GO-GO” pushing-hard, while Weightlifting is power, technical precision and patience.

The Olympic lifts (Snatch and Clean & Jerk) constitute a considerable part of the CrossFit workouts. However, when designing a training program for cross fit folks that includes the Oly-lifts, it is a good idea to embrace the principle “focus on getting in as many good quality singles and doubles as you can, at as high a weight as you can, while keeping your technique as pretty as you can.” Period!

This is how we see it – master your technique, train reasonably and safely, get the most benefit from the best. Not many athletes have the opportunity to train under a world-renowned expert eye.
